Herb Description & Ecology: The plant of the burdock root is a biennial that blooms bright pink/red/purple thistle-like flowers on long stalks. The plant is native to Europe and Asia but has now been naturalized in North America and Australia. The carrot-like taproot can grow up to three feet deep. Burdock root can be brewed into a tea, or used as a tincture, poultice, or powdered and encapsulated. Burdock root is used in herbal medicine and Traditional Chinese medicine, and is a diuretic, diaphoretic, and a blood purifying agent.
